ABHMS continues to pray for strength and protection for those affected by Hurricane Idalia, a high-end Category 3 hurricane with maximum sustained winds near 125 mph that is currently devastating parts of Cuba, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina this week.
As Idalia hit the Big Bend area in Florida earlier today, having gained strength in the Gulf of Mexico, the region faced 12 to 16 feet of storm surges. The Tallahassee-based National Weather Service office warned that “locations may be uninhabitable for several weeks or months” due to wind damage.
First reports from the affected areas show widespread devastation, with submerged homes and vehicles, downed power lines, snapped tall trees and flying sheet metal. More than 330,000 households in Florida and Georgia are without electricity.
