It has now been three years since Hurricane Maria—the worst storm in Puerto Rico in 80 years—ripped through the island, wreaking havoc. Since December 2019 and into 2020, the southwestern part of the island of Puerto Rico has been shaken by a series of earthquakes, including 11 that were magnitude 5 or greater. These natural disasters have added insult to injury, testing the faith and resilience of the Puerto Rican people.
More than 100 American Baptist volunteer teams and more than 1,000 volunteers have served in Puerto Rico since 2017. They are helping to rebuild homes and churches, while providing supplies, such as food, snacks, water, ice, first aid, tents, tarps and sleeping bags to affected areas. They also tend to the emotional needs of those experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder.
Please join ABHMS in continuing to bring hope and healing to communities across Puerto Rico.
